HOME PRACTICES: 5 TEA FOR THE SUMMER

10/07/2025

Herbal tea is not only worth drinking if you want to avoid an illness or alleviate symptoms. It is worth replacing store-bought sweetened iced tea with additive-free homemade chilled teas, which the whole family can drink.

1. MINT (Mentha X piperita) can even replace coffee in the morning with its refreshing, invigorating effect. You can make it from freshly picked leaves, so the taste will be fresher, but the invigorating effect is weaker. After boiling the leaves, always leave them covered so that the flavor can dissolve, but the released essential oils do not evaporate. It can be flavored with lemon and honey.

2. RASPBERRY LEAF (Rubus idaeus)/BLACKBERRY LEAF (Rubus caesius) You can make a pleasant-tasting tea rich in vitamin C and valuable plant acids if you strain it a few minutes after boiling. Because due to the tannin in the leaves, if you let it stand for longer time, it will become bitter and may irritate the stomach.

3. LEMON BALM (Melissa officinalis) can provide peace for the whole day with its relaxing effect. With its slightly lemony taste, it does not require any special flavoring. In the evening, you can achieve a pleasant sleep with the warm version - it is even more effective with a little lavender flower honey.

4. ROSEHIP (Rosa canina) If you use it for medicinal purposes, cold soaking is the most effective way to extract the valuable active ingredients, however, if you only consume it as a soft drink, you can also make it by boiling. Its sour, lemony flavor can be balanced with a little honey.

5. ELDERFLOWER (Sambucus nigra) Freshly picked elderflowers are a hit every summer, and you can make a refreshing tea in addition to syrup. Sweetening is not necessary due to its floral, slightly sweet taste, but a little lemon juice goes well with it. Be careful, if you collect the elderflower yourself, never add its leaves, as they can be poisonous.
